Upon reaching my room, I started the shower and laid my dress across my bed. I showered quickly then stepped into some sweats. My mom wasn't due back to do my hair for another ten minutes. I opened my laptop and clicked on messages. There was just a few new ones. Jayson had sent a message asking if I was okay. There was only one that was marked as important. I clicked on it with a sigh, thinking that it would be just another telemarketer. I read the first sentence, and my eyes opened wide.

Dear Ms. Levenson,
You think your life is just perfect. You have a caring family, and a loving boyfriend, and even a baby on the way! All that is going to change tonight, when you least expect it. Everything you know and love will be ripped away from you, and it all will come from some close. So farewell,  Ivy. I hope your party "lights up" the night.
Anonymous.

I let out a shaky breath, and a tear trickled down my cheek. "Ivy?" My mother asked from the doorway. "Are you okay?" She rushed to my side, taking my hand. I shook my head and handed her my laptop. She told me to leave the room. I stood and left to dry my hair. By the time I had stepped back out into my room, my mom had left again. I checked my computer and found that the email had been deleted. I glanced at the clock. It was almost 9:30. I waited patiently for ten minutes for Mom to come back in. The ten minutes turned into twenty, and the twenty went to half a hour. Fed up with waiting, I climbed up the small spiral staircase and into my loft.

My loft was my favorite place in the mansion. A bookshelf lined on of the walls, filled with my favorites. One wall was all windows. Comfy benches were pushed up against them. Skylights let in the warm sun. I turned on my radio and sat on one of the benches. My thoughts drifted back to the baby, and a heart stopping thought made me gasp. How was I going to tell Jayson?

Jayson and I had been together for almost five years now, and I loved him with all my heart. We have talked about marriage, and I was still hoping that he was going to propose soon. Jayson and I were complete opposites. He had blond hair and warm chocolate eyes. I had jet black hair and the lightest blue eyes. He was such a calm and collected person. He was a bit of a goofball, but was serious when the time called for it. I usually was crazy all the time and quite the rebel. I had purple dip dyed my hair, and my parents had been absolutely livid about it. I laughed out loud, remembering their faces when I had returned home. "Ivy?" Mom's voice called from the bedroom. I rushed back down the stairs and saw her arranging things on the dresser.

"Why did you delete that email?" I said pushing my laptop out of the way as I sat down on the bed. Mom gave me a surprised look.

"What email?" she asked.

"The one from earlier this morning." I said slowly. Her age must be getting to her.

"Was there an email for me?" I stared at her. There was no bluff in her eyes.

"Never mind." Mom patted the chair in front of her. I sat down.

"So have you thought of any names?" she asked brushing through my hair.

"Well, I was thinking of---" All my cares soon went away, and I was enjoying spending time with my mother. She strategically placed curlers in my long hair. Mom had gotten used to the purple. It took forever to put my hair up. I was going to cut it, but decided to keep it long for the party. Around one, Jinny swept in the room with lunch. After eating, Jinny stayed and applied my make-up. Mom got called downstairs about the party decorations and left.

Jinny finished my make-up early, and the afternoon flew by. I had done Brooklyn's hair and helped her walk around in her heels. We decided that she wouldn't be able to do that, and I let her borrow a pair of golden sandals to match her white dress. I rushed back upstairs to my room at five. Mom helped me put on my dress, and I noticed that it was really tighter than the last time I had tried it on.

The dress was violet and covered in black lace. It cinched around my waist and diamonds designed in patterns lined one side. Mom ran into the room, already dresses in her green dress. She took the curlers out of my hair, and they fell in ringlets. I put her diamond necklace on, and it glimmered against my pale skin. Mom ushered me out of the room, and I struggled to pull on my flats. We met Mason, Brooklyn, and Dad in the hallway. Dad and Mason were dressed in nice tuxes, and Brooklyn looked gorgeous as usual. Mason and Brooklyn ran ahead towards the Ballroom while Mom and Dad walked behind me in deep conversation. I rubbed my stomach anxiously unable to shake the uneasy feeling. Mom and Dad caught up with me. I was lost in my thoughts, though. How was I going to tell Jayson and was he going to think this was a good thing or a bad thing?
